Child Start Conferences Provide In-Service Hours for Professionals,
Information and Fun for Parents

(WICHITA, KS) – March 7, 2009, is a gold-star day for those seeking in-service hours, information and fun through three separate conferences provided by Child Start.
All events will be held at West Heights United Methodist Church, 745 N. Westlink Avenue in Wichita.

“Growing with Children”

The “Growing with Children” conference, geared toward family child care providers and child care center teachers, begins with registration at 7:30am and includes presentation sessions (attendee can select), exhibit review times, a keynote speech by Jennifer Crow of the Kansas Coalition for School Readiness, and a parent workshop.  Conference exhibitors include Kaplan Early Learning Company, Lakeshore Learning Materials, Wichita Public Library Foundation, Carol’s Affordable Curriculum, Epilepsy Resource Connection, Juice Plus, Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Service, Rainbows United and more.
The session choices offered to attendees include the following topics:

Session One choices:

“SIDS and the Child Care Setting” presented by Tonya Rose (Program Director, SIDS Network of Kansas) Audience: Infant/Toddler Child Care Providers and Parents 
“Budgeting 101 for Busy Childcare Providers” presented by Marta Curry (Waddell & Reed) Audience: Family Child Care Providers

“The Director’s Chair”

The “Director’s Chair” Conference, designed for directors and owners who want to develop a culture that creates a sense of community in their child care centers, will begin with registration at 7:30am.  Featuring Mary Hornbeck, owner of Special Beginnings Early Learning Center, the conference is organized by the Early Childhood Director’s Organization.

“Parents Make the Difference”

Parents can top off the day with a special make-it-and-take it workshop from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.  Registration for this workshop is $15 (limited to the first 20 people, materials provided).   Attendance at other sessions or conferences is not necessary for this event.  (Parents are welcome to sign up and only attend this workshop.)
Attendees may choose either the “Growing with Children” or “Director’s Chair” Conference and may register via the Internet for all conferences at www.childstart.org.  Prices range from $55.00 to $70.00 depending upon time of registration and membership.
