Hats and Mittens Needed for Head Start Toddlers Ages 3-5
(WICHITA, KS) – As the temperatures drop, more and more children in the Wichita area are in need of outdoor apparel to help keep them warm. Child Start, the private non-profit agency charged with administering Early Head Start, Head Start and the Child Care Resource and Referral program, needs help from the community.
Teresa Rupp, Executive Director of Child Start, commented, “We are attempting to collect 1000 hats and 1000 pairs of mittens for distribution to our Head Start children (toddlers ages 3 to 5), but need additional help from the community to reach our goal. We have collected close to 400 sets of hats and gloves / mittens so far but have a remaining need for 308 new sets for boys and 350 new sets for girls. We hope to distribute the items the week of December 15, and are asking Wichitans to be generous before then to help us keep our children warm.
Despite these difficult times, our request is a small expense on an individual basis -- perhaps parents with even a small amount of disposable income would consider taking their older children shopping, allowing them to select a hat and glove set to donate to a younger child in need, teaching them the value of charitable giving during this holiday season. We have experienced the generosity of this community in the past and are hopeful to experience it again prior to our distribution week. We would also gladly accept monetary donations. (All donations are tax deductible.)”
This event is sponsored by Child Start, Auto Craft Collision Repair, Kid to Kid, Fox Kansas, and MyTV Wichita. Items may be dropped off at any of the following locations and would be appreciated by December 12, 2008:
